I was recently asked to review Sharon Silver’s book, Stop Reacting and Start Responding: 108 Ways to Discipline Consciously and Become the Parent You Want to Be. And, I’m so glad I was. Like you, I’m a parent. And like you, my kids aren’t perfect. {If yours are, feel free to stop reading here.}

This book was jam packed with great tips and advice for parents of children ages 1 – 10. Just as I thought it would be. I took a good deal of notes as I read through and have already started to implement many of the strategies.

What I liked most about the book, in addition to the great tips, were the easy to read chapters. They covered topics like; behavior, choices, reacting, out in public, feelings, siblings and many more. Then each chapter was broken down into easy to understand tips. And, there was a ‘quick view’ after each tip so you could go back and easily review. Wonderfully convenient!

Most of the tips throughout the book resonated with me, but I did have a few favorites. I love the idea that Silver presents about teaching gratefulness at birthday time. She suggests creating a birthday wheel and spinning it to earn gifts, which revolve around spending time with others, not necessarily material possessions.

I also liked the tips she provided about getting the kids up in the morning, the clue word to use in public when things are starting to go awry, thank you bites, pig day {they can eat anything they want?!} and pretending to blow out birthday candles to release frustration. With two kids, ages four and six, these things were very relevant to our day-to-day lives.

Overall, Silver had great messages about discipline versus punishment and the benefits to knowing the difference. Throughout the book were great reminders about how we are modeling behavior for our children and they really are watching us every second.

I would highly recommend this book. It’s available as an easy download pdf eBook, which is a great option.  In addition to her book, Silver has downloadable seminars available as well. From now until December 2, all downloadable seminars are 50% off! Purchase one, or the whole set! This sale excludes books, coaching sessions and combo packages.

I encourage you to visit Proactive Parenting for a wide variety of resources!

*I was provided with a free copy of Silver’s eBook in order to write this review, however all opinions are my own.

Do you have trouble keeping your kids occupied while you do a few chores around the house or maybe take a phone call? Are you a little nervous about putting them on your computer? Color it by Numbers might be an option for you.

I was asked to review their new series – Animals and it couldn’t have come at a better time. In the weeks after I had my baby, this program kept my older children occupied during some times when I needed some peace and quiet. They were very proud of their creations, too.

The program is an easy download and the pictures are very attractive. It was neat to see my kids recognize the numbers and complete the pictures correctly. The program is easy for them to use and looked great. And, once I had it set up for my kids it was the only window that was up and they couldn’t easily get into something they weren’t supposed to.

The site has the option to download some trial images before purchasing the entire set. It’s a nice perk and allows you to see exactly how the program works.

Color it by Numbers gave me access to three sets of images, animals, princesses and vehichles. All three are very cute.

Win it! They also gave me one of each to give away. So, the first three people to comment here can have a download code. Simply state which set you’d like (animals, princesses or vehichles) and it’s yours. Be sure to include your e-mail address!

*I was given a free download of Color it by Numbers to complete this review, but all opinions are my own.

When it comes to marketing we have to be outrageous, we have to be radical, and we have to think “in the box”.  Yes marketing in the bathroom is “in the box” and here is why.

Where is the first place all women go when they enter into any establishment? Yes the bathroom.  This is something we do all the time, even when we don’t have to use the bathroom.  The thought of promoting your business or event in the bathroom can be one of the most effective ways to get prospects attention. You can display your signs, fliers and posters in both the men’s and the women’s bathroom to market your special events, current promotion, workshops and your products.

If you are thinking of ways to get the word out there, without you being at every networking event in the city, or spending money on a street team to give out fliers that you find on the floor.  Invest in your nearest business owner and their establishment.  Ask the owner or the manger if you could place your flier in their bathroom stalls for a low fee.

Be sure to update and visit the bathrooms to add more fliers, update information, and remember to keep the marketing fresh.  The same old flier gets boring, stick to your brand, but switch up the words and the images a bit.

Now if you want to hire someone to pass out fliers, hire a bathroom monitor who will check on the “Take One” flier that you created based on the last blog post. 😉

I will be sending out my Bathroom monitor next week. (Want to be a Corporate Mom Drop Out? Want to give birth to your Business in 90 days, instead of 9 months?) take one…
