Blogging::

Technorati has stated that it is tracking over 112.8 million blogs. That could only be the tip of the ice burg, with millions more blogs in foreign languages across the world. There are blogs every topic and genre that you can imagine. And that’s why they can be a valuable marketing tool for your business. If you offer a unique product or service, chances are there is a blog with a relevant topic that will reach your target audience.

For instance, if you make and sell unique custom cat toys, readers of the New York Times might not be interested. But, chances are readers of the blog, Modern Cat, would be. No matter what type of advertising or promotion you are doing, finding members of your target audience is critical. Although Modern Cat doesn’t have as many readers as the New York Times your success could be much greater because all of their readers already have a vested interest in cats and cat products.

While many blogs do not offer any type of advertising, it is becoming more and more common for blogs to feature advertisements to financially benefit themselves or promote their favorite causes and products. Many offer sponsorships or button ads for purchase. There are many unique ways to advertise on blogs and each blogger has different preferences and options. You can start researching and digging through your options by visiting our Blog Listings.

In addition to basic advertisements that are paid placements, many blogs also offer product reviews and/or giveaways. By sending a blogger a sample of your product, they often, in turn will write a review for free or host a giveaway to gain even more exposure for your products. Blogs that feature product reviews are very popular with moms looking for the newest and trendiest products available. It can be a very effective way to get your business in front of thousands, as many blogs have a very high readership. However, many bloggers do not return products, so choose carefully where you send yours, especially if they are expensive or in limited supply, i.e. handmade.

When sending a product, it’s always best to follow a blogger's specific instructions. Usually these can be found on their ‘about us’ or ‘contact’ page. Always send a business card so they can get in touch with you and promotional pieces, like brochures and press releases, are usually good to send along as well.

To Blog or not to Blog?

Many business owners start their own blogs as another way to help promote themselves and their business. Writing a blog can be time consuming and sometimes it can be tricky to write a blog that finds a good balance between promoting your business and writing interesting posts. But, it can be a great way to network and meet a great new group of potential customers. I enjoy operating Market Mommy:: The Blog because it gives me a more flexible venue to discuss current issues related to my business. It also provides a great avenue for promotions and SEO.
