Thyjuan started her customized cupcakes, cookies, cakes and event planning business, Inspirations by Thyjuan, in April of 2010. Since then she’s enjoyed making goodies for more than just her family and friends.
Since her children are so young, ages 1 and 3, balancing family and business can be very challenging. “Planning and scheduling is a must,” she said. Since her family is her number one priority, she tries to spend as much time with them as she can. “I try to work around their schedules so that I can have quality time with them,” she said.
Like many mom business owners, Thyjuan tries to save desk and computer duties for the evenings when her children are asleep. She also admits that her Droid phone has been a critical tool in handling emergencies, quick responses and staying on top of things when she’s with the kids.
Thyjuan encourages others by reminding them that it may be tough to focus on time management with kids at home, but it’s not impossible. “Having a great support system is also key, but even if you don’t have a great support system, don’t let that stop you,” she said. “Go for your dreams!”
Finally, she said that if you have a passion for something, you should do it. “A happy mom is a better mom!”
